01 Jan 2013: "Extracts from the Album A Hard Day's Night" by The Beatles
So, it's essentially four songs from A Hard Day's Night that weren't in the film. Only Any Time at All is really good.

02 Jan 2013: "Deloused in the Comatorium" by The Mars Volta
/mu/ did a thing. They recommended this album, and I like it. Good job for /mu/.
My main problem is that the best track has a huge filler section. Padding isn't cool, guys.
But, hey! It's the best album from the essentials list that I've heard in a while!
I can't decide whether this album should get a 3.5 or a 4.

03 Dec 2013: "Born Again" by Black Sabbath
MEDIOCRE

04 Jan 2013: "In Rock" by Deep Purple
Oh boy.
Child in Time is fucking horrible. Anyone who claims to like it is wrong. It's completely and entirely unlistenable.
Yellow, you're wrong. Purple, you're wrong. RYM, you're wrong. /mu/, you're probably actually right for once.
Pre-Child in Time, the album is very good. Post-Child in Time, it's just okay.

05 Jan 2013: "Idlewild South" by The Allman Brothers Band
Imagine a band releasing an amazing album. Now imagine that same band trying to create a follow-up and sounding like an unknown band trying too hard to sound like Lynyrd Skynyrd. Now imagine that this all happens before Lynyrd Skynyrd exists. Shit, dog.
... are you sure I didn't download an album of Lynyrd Skynyrd outtakes?

06 Jan 2013: "Take This to Your Grave" by Fall Out Boy
Welp.
I used to hate Patrick Stump's voice. I don't any more for some reason.
This album features Dead on Arrival, which was totally in the original Rock Band. I remember hating it. Now I think it is just okay.
So, this album is pretty good, but not as good as that other one. From Under the Cork Tree.
And it's a shame that Reinventing the Wheel to Run Myself Over is the worst track on the album (aside from their cover of Roxanne), since it has the best title and all.

07 Jan 2013: "Powerage" by AC/DC
Another one of these?! Why not?
The main reason this album exists is because of Riffraff, which is pretty great.
Other than that, it's just okay.

08 Jan 2013: "Forevermore" by Tesla
Goddammit, Whitesnake.
Tesla took the "generic hard rock" route after their genre died. It's a shame, since their first two or three albums were so great.

09 Jan 2013: "Styx I" by Styx
The first track would be great without the talking in the middle.
This album is short, but that's okay. Nothing on it is very impressive anyway.

10 Jan 2013: "Lost Highway" by Bon Jovi
After the success of Who Says You Can't Go Home, Bon Jovi decided to make a country album. This can't go wrong.
The worst part of it all is that the title track has the band's best guitar solo since the 1980s.
Then we have DUET WITH COUNTRY CHICK, which is pretty bad.
This album turned out about how I expected. 2/5

11 Jan 2013: "Splinter" by The Offspring
The Offspring should do an album entirely in the style of When You're in Prison. It would certainly be better than the rest of this.

12 Jan 2013: "Thirds" by James Gang
The follow-up to Rides Again.
Shame that it's pretty much Filler: The Album. Goddammit, guys, get your shit together

13 Jan 2013: "Exile on Main Street" by The Rolling Stones
This is supposed to be one of their four "great" albums. Only one of the three I've listened to has been great, but hey. Also, this is a double album, so fuck everything.
This album starts off good, but degenerates in the middle, and the end is just bad. Shame.
After listening to about ten of The Rolling Stones' albums, I have decided that they are kind of a horrible band. Just like The Who.
p.s. the white stripes totally did stop breaking down better

14 Jan 2013: "Permanent Waves" by Rush
I figured as long as I'm reviewing bad albums, might as well go for these guys.
I can't not hear "in pathways, I think of Lee" in Freewill.
Overall, this album is probably better than most of the shit I've reviewed this year. That really isn't saying much, though.

15 Jan 2013: "Wowee Zowee" by Pavement
Pavement have always been extremely average. What better album for my ONE-THOUSANDTH RYM RATING
Also, this is the worst of the three. Everything here sucks.

Completely and totally average.

17 Jan 2013: "Stained Class" by Judas Priest
I have listened to three Judas Priest albums, including this one. This is the best of them, by far.
I still think that solo/riff/thing at the beginning of the title track is amazing.

18 Jan 2013: "Embryonic" by The Flaming Lips
/mu/ had two of their albums on the list, and this is the second. It is nowhere near as good as the first.

19 Jan 2013: "Wincing the Night Away" by The Shins
Like always, The Shins prove how good, yet unremarkable they are.

20 Jan 2013: "The Great Southern Trendkill" by Pantera
Looking back through my ratings, I actually enjoyed Cowboys from Hell. So here we are.
The album starts with a scream and drumming and whatever. Nice job.
I find this music hilarious. I find it hilarious that a group of people got together and decided to make this, thinking they'd be taken seriously. It's even funnier because it worked.
However, it is not good.

21 Jan 2013: "Nothing Like the Sun" by Sting
I've always kind of resented Sting's solo career for being so inferior to his work with The Police. However, this album is certainly the best of his solo work, even if it can't even approach the quality of The Police's worst album, Synchronicity.
Also, Hendrix totally did Little Wing better.

22 Jan 2013: "Your Favourite Weapon" by Brand New
The first album is really generic. They get their shit together for the second, but this one is very mediocre.

23 Jan 2013: "Nebraska" by Bruce Springsteen
After making several amazing albums, Bruce Springsteen decides to record an album of himself mumbling.

24 Jan 2013: "This Was" by Jethro Tull
Jethro Tull's debut. They filled it with instrumentals. Fuck.
