BONUS REVIEW: "Willy and the Poor Boys" by Creedence Clearwater Revival http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/06/mages-are-super-great-guys-whom-i.html This album starts with Down on the Corner, which is, like, a classic or something. It's also where the album got its name. TRIVIA WITH GREEN Cotton Fields is super-boring. No way around it. It's followed by obvious filler, Poor Boy Shuffle. WE'RE GOING GREAT HERE GUYS Hell, this entire album is full of filler. This album has a really high score on RYM, so let's look at some reviews. Few bands could pull off releasing three albums in a year without at least one of them being stuffed to the gills with filler, but Creedence Clearwater revival managed it in 1969 Cotton Fields, Poor Boy Shuffle, Feelin' Blue, Don't Look Now, The Midnight Special, Side of the Road, and Effigy would like a word with you. One would expect that a band releasing three albums in the course of one year would result in a drop in quality. Just the opposite happened for Creedence Clearwater Revival. While Bayou Country showed the band progressing from their debut and Green River was their first essential album, Willy and the Poorboys managed to even top that. Wrong in every direction. Bayou County was better than Green River. Fogerty was absolutely on fire in '69, and this is the peak of his creative genius. There's not a bum song anywhere to be found. Just classic after classic Maybe I'm wrong? No, wait, I have working ears. And a blog.

07 Jul 2012: "Stormbringer" by Deep Purple Gotta keep runnin'. Even before I listened to any Deep Purple albums in full, I'd said my favourite incarnation of Deep Purple was Mk. III. You know what? I was fucking RIGHT. Highlights: Stormbringer, Lady Double Dealer, You Can't do it Right Lowlights: Holy Man, The Gypsy In relation to other albums: Not as good as Burn.

BONUS REVIEW: "Dream Police" by Cheap Trick http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/06/seriously-those-mages-man-so-super.html Gonna Raise Hell is way too long. Six or seven minutes too long. Other than that, this album was okay. Highlights: Need Your Love, Dream Police, Writing on the Wall Lowlights: Gonna Raise Hell, I Know What I Want In relation to other albums: Better than In Colour, worse than Heaven Tonight.

08 Jul 2012: "Diamond Dogs" by David Bowie So, David Bowie. I love Hunky Dory and Ziggy, love half of Low, and am not a big fan of the other three I've listened to. It's rather frustrating. when the best song on your album is rebel, rebel, you have a problem

BONUS REVIEW: "Skynyrd's First and Last" by Lynyrd Skynyrd http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/06/why-are-mages-so-great-by-not-mages.html So, after that whole "plane crash" thing, the record label decided to release outtakes from their first album. What the fuck. White Dove sounds nothing like a Lynyrd Skynyrd song. Seriously, what. Luckily, right after that is Was I Right or Wrong, which returns the album to form by being the best on the album. Overall, this is a good collection of songs, and I'm glad it was released.

09 Jul 2012: "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd what have i become So, RYM loves this album. I figured since I liked Dark Side of the Moon and Animals, I should give this a try. Shine on You! Crazy Diamond starts and ends the album. I think the instrumental beginning of the first part dragons on too long, but I may just be the worst person. This album was good.

BONUS REVIEW: "Off the Record" by The Sweet http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/06/we-are-super-great-by-mages.html when will i shut up about the mages The album's biggest flaw? The backing vocals. It may seem like I say this a lot, but only because it's true. Despite these problems, the album is still good.

10 Jul 2012: "Good Trouble" by REO Speedwagon I never really listened to REO Speedwagon before last month. I always just assumed most of their songs would be really gay. Something about Take it on the Run always made me think that. I love it when I find out that a band I'd been ignoring is really great. It's even better when two of their albums are great. Highlights: I'll Follow You, Stillness of the Night, Good Trouble Lowlights: Sweet Time In relation to other albums: On-par with Hi Infidelity. I can't choose one over the other.

BONUS REVIEW: "Fandango!" by ZZ Top http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/06/wallet-fifty-nine-by-man-of-many.html This choice was sort of last minute. I was trying to download another album off rapidshare, which always takes forever, and it ended up being password protected, blah blah blah. I just chose an album from the list almost at random. A small confession while I'm at it: I've always had a soft spot for Tush. The album starts with fifty seconds of crowd noise! I fucking love crowd noise! Oh, wait. No, I don't. I'd always ignored ZZ Top before now, figuring their albums would be mediocre. I was right. But I still really like Tush.

11 Jul 2012: "Dandy in the Underworld" by T.Rex This was T.Rex's last album before Marc Bolan's death. It was also considered a return to form. Ouch. I certainly agree that this is T.Rex's best album since Tanx.

12 Jul 2012: "Mirrors" by Blue Oyster Cult Blue Oyster Cult have a nice spot in my ratings. All of their albums have gotten a 3.5. To be fair, that last album of theirs was probably closer to a 3, but you know. The version of The Vigil on my version of the album is four seconds long, sped up from the original 6:25. I sort of don't want to listen to the real one. Okay, fuck it, let's do it. Oh, this is pretty good. All is right with the world. 3.5

BONUS REVIEW: "Dopethrone" by Electric Wizard http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/06/leave-your-tray-table-up-and-your-seat.html Oh boy. This album is on the essentials list, and I've heard these guys aren't everything I hate about metal. This album was super-okay, but the songs dragged on for too long.

13 Jul 2012: "Press to Play" by Paul McCartney I almost said "fuck it" and didn't do this album, but CHRONOLOGY. Next month's looks super-good, though. note: I did skip Give My Regards to Broad Street, but seriously. I'm actually glad I didn't skip it, if just for Stranglehold and Press. It's definitely a step up from Pipes of Peace. However, However Absurd is absurd in its trying-to-be-an-anthem-and-failing-horribly. It and a lot of other songs on this album feel unfinished; they have a decent idea behind them, but the execution is severely lacking. I should also say that I hate the cover art. the longer i stare at paul mccartney's name the wronger it looks

BONUS REVIEW: "Girls, Girls, Girls" by Motley Crue http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/06/neon-cat-by-will-never-stop-er-neon-ing.html Motley Crue need a good album. I know Dr. Feelgood will be one (I've heard most of the songs on it), but will this? The album starts with one of Motley Crue's best songs, Wild Side. This doesn't mean the album itself will be good, as their absolute worst album had their absolute best song on it (Shout at the Devil/Too Young to Fall in Love). Dancing on Glass sounds like they castrated Vince Neil in the middle of the song. I wish this were a pathetic attempt at a joke, but I'm completely serious, as always. No one's ever asked me what I mean by "filler", but if they did, I'd just have them listen to Nona. You're All I Need is another of those GLAM METAL BALLADS, but this one is super-gay. More super-gay than usual. Vince's UPPER REGISTER is quite gay-sounding. The album ends on a live version of Jailhouse Rock. It's actually rather okay. Overall? Motley Crue's best album at the time. That isn't saying much, however.

14 Jul 2012: "Gone Troppo" by George Harrison This album came out after Somewhere in England, to which I gave a 4, implying it is his fourth best solo album. That doesn't sound impressive, but ahead of it are All Things Must Pass, Living in the Material World, and Extra Texture, all of which got 4.5s. This isn't to say that George didn't release duds. Dark Ho(a)rse and Cloud Nine (the album after this one) got a 2, the self-titled got a 2.5, and Thirty-Three and a Third got a 3. Before today, George Harrison had two solo albums I hadn't listened to, barring the two experimental things I'm sure to hate. I hadn't found any of his albums bad, the worst being mediocre. Gone Troppo changes everything. It gets a 1. George got this guy to do super-low bits on some songs or maybe he's doing it himself but it sounds awful And the other songs are mediocre

BONUS REVIEW: "Telekinesis!" by Telekinesis http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/06/night-man-by-nights.html /mu/ had a list where they recommended this. I figured why not. I really enjoyed this. There's nothing that's especially innovative or different or LIFE-CHANGING, but the music is all very good and I enjoy it. AND THAT IS WHAT MATTERS. If you're interested, Last.FM is offering a free download of Car Crash from their second album (not this one). Or YouTube exists. I'm pretty sure it does, anyway.

15 Jul 2012: "It Won't be Soon Before Long" by Maroon 5 I chose this because I really like This Love, and I'd already reviewed the album that was on. This album is divided between really gay ballads and really good rock songs. #maroon5inanutshell

16 Jul 2012: "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" by Neil Young /mu/ recommended this on their ESSENTIALS LIST, and I'd never listened to Neil Young before, so here we are. The album opens with obvious filler. That's always a good sign. I hate the backing vocals on the title track. okay yeah i hate this The songs are boring, uninteresting, and the backing vocals betray any emotion Neil may have been going for.

I'm just going to say this right now. Also, Rock Band 2 was nearly four years ago. This is a fun (if uneven) album. I enjoyed it.
