13 Aug 2014: Carly Rae Jepsen/"Kiss" (2012)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/07/hanging-onto-everything-i-feel-is-okay.html

Featuring the hit, Call Me Maybe.
Call Me Maybe is a modern classic. It's catchy, well-written, and sung very well. It's the best pop song in years.
Guitar String/Wedding Ring, however, is the opposite of Call Me Maybe. It might just be the worst song I've ever heard. The singing is horrible, and the chorus is irritating and EVERYWHERE. WHY IS THIS SONG A SONG.

Other than those two tracks, the album hits the "good" spot consistently.

13 Aug 2014: Weird Al/"Even Worse" (1988)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/08/dudes-duding-dudes-by-dude.html

Weird Al is the new KISS.
Honestly, it took me years to get the joke of the album title. It seems obvious in retrospect, but I wasn't really looking for it.

The album opens with the title track? I mean they're both jokes about Michael Jackson's "Bad". Fat is pretty sweet, really. The "ham on" bit is pretty clever, really.
This Song's Just Six Words Long is pretty much spot-on. "You gotta write so many words to do it, to do it, to do it right, child".

Lasagna is the most strange, offensive, retarded song I've ever heard. I love it so much. I'm legitimately laughing, dog.
The weak spot of the album is Velvet Elvis, which is a style parody of The Police. He's got the sound down, but I... don't get it.

Overall, this album isn't as good as Dare to be Stupid, but it's still enjoyable as shit.

14 Aug 2014: KISS/"Lick it Up" (1983)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2014/01/stop-deleting-my-posts-guys-by-frog.html

This is the last KISS album where I actually know a song from it.
However, this album holds an important place in KISStory (ugh). This is the album where it happened. Where the band finally appeared without makeup, right there on the cover.
It would probably have had more impact if Ace and Peter were there, but hey.

The title track is just so '80s. It's kind of painful. Still, gives me memories of THUG and Vice City Stories, so it's not all bad.

This album really just doesn't do it. It's just kind of there. There's nothing really special about it. It's like KISS songs that weren't good enough for the other albums, which is far less than the huge "KISS WITHOUT MAKEUP" album deserved.

14 Aug 2014: Ace Frehley/"Frehley's Comet" (1987)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-good-thing-is-that-were-not-dead-by.html

Over half a decade after leaving KISS, Ace came out with his second solo album.

"If the devil's gonna play a card game now, he's gonna play without an Ace in his deck". Like, damn. I can smell the smoke lingering from that SICK BURN

Honestly, this sounds like a KISS album. If Paul Stanley were singing, I wouldn't bat an eye. It's much better than Lick it Up, which is good.

15 Aug 2014: The Outlaws/"The Outlaws" (1975)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/07/its-good-thing-were-not-dead-by-oh-wait.html

Featuring Green Grass and High Tides. I'm surprised I didn't do this album years ago.

The Outlaws can't decide if they want to be Lynyrd Skynyrd or Eagles. Thankfully, by the end, they decide to be Lynyrd Skynyrd and pull out Green Grass and High Tides.
Every other song just makes me want to listen to Eagles or Lynyrd Skynyrd.

15 Aug 2014: The Offspring/"Summer Nationals" (2014)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2014/08/julio-and-case-of-missing-ganondorf-by.html

I figure that a three-song EP won't kill me. Every song on here is apparently a cover, but I haven't heard any of the originals, so.
All three songs song lazy and phoned in. Yay.

15 Aug 2014: Guns N' Roses/"EP" (1988)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2010/08/balls-by-impossible.html

A mostly live EP from right after Appetite for Destruction. It's got all your favourite Guns N' Roses members, unless you liked Buckethead or Bumblefoot or Gilby or Matt Sorum or whoever.

It starts with It's so Easy, which, uh, huh. Axl sounds like he's been at it all night, and is worn right out. Horrible way to start the EP.
Luckily, second is the favourite Guns N' Roses song of 2008 me, Shadow of Your Love. It's as great as ever. Probably a horrible idea for every Guitar Hero list I made after I heard it, but I stand by the fact that it would be sweet to play.

I swear that this is the same version of Move to the City on Lies/Live Shit. Oh well.
I've never been a fan of Knockin' on Heaven's Door. The EP does little to persuade me.

The cover of Whole Lotta Rosie is pretty good. Better than most of The Spaghetti Incident.
The album ends on the studio version of Sweet Child O' Mine for some reason. I suppose I can't complain.

Aside from the abysmal version of It's so Easy, this was pretty good.

16 Aug 2014: Warren Zevon/"Excitable Boy" (1978)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/07/guys-taking-charge-of-charges-by-charges.html

Yes, the one with Werewolves of London on it.

Imagine Werewolves of London and remove the sweet piano riff and the howling. That's this album.

16 Aug 2014: Matthew Sweet/"Girlfriend" (1991)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/07/how-long-am-i-scheduling-these-ahead.html

I can't put it off any longer. This is the album featuring the best song in GH2.
Girlfriend is just perfect. It's a jam from moment one. Everything about that guitar part? Perfect. The vocals are arguable, but I've come to enjoy them.

Honestly, this album would be better if it was five or six songs shorter. The songs end up feeling like retreads of eachother, and he didn't even have the decency to retread Girlfriend.

16 Aug 2014: Avril Lavigne/"The Best Damn Thing" (2007)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/07/holding-my-head-in-my-hands-by.html

I wish this album had been called "Girlfriend" so the joke would be more obvious.

The album starts with Girlfriend, which was in Burnout Paradise. Let me put it this way: I turned off every song except for Girlfriend, despite the game having songs like Would?, Epic, and Rusty Cage. Burnout: Avril Lavigne

"I'm sick of this shit; don't ask why". Pretty much sums it up.
Honestly, though, it's surprising how not bad this is. It's not exactly good, but I can't call it bad.

17 Aug 2014: Helmet/"Meantime" (1992)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/07/heading-my-hold-in-my-hands-by.html

This album features Unsung, which was in both GH1 and San Andreas.
I didn't really like Unsung the first fifty or so times I heard it, but I've warmed up to it.

Which is good, since it is far and away the best song on this generic-ass album.

17 Aug 2014: Electric Light Orchestra/"Secret Messages" (1983)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/07/calling-for-backup-by-backing-up.html

Four Little Diamonds was in Vice City, so here we are.

Honestly? This is exactly what I want an ELO album to be like. Time After Time may be shit, but it wasn't even on the original album, so I can forgive it. Okay, and Letter from Spain is complete and utter filler, but other than that.

18 Aug 2014: Paul McCartney/"Run Devil Run" (1999)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/07/carrying-weights-made-of-chocolate-by.html

This album is mostly covers. Twelve of the fifteen songs are covers, the title track being one of the originals. Aside from those originals, it's basically Paul's Rock and Roll, but with a far different background.
This album has kind of an important history as far as Paul McCartney albums post-Wings go, so I'll just leave this here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_Devil_Run_(album)

The cover of Elvis's All Shook Up is just perfect. I'm legitimately impressed.
Unexpectedly, the best songs after All Shook Up are the originals. I'm even more impressed.

Really, the energy here is amazing, especially for a 57-year-old man, even without the circumstances of it all. I like this album A LOT. Like, it's up there with New as McCartney's best post-Wings album.

18 Aug 2014: Ringo Starr/"Good Night Vienna" (1974)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/07/policing-world-by-cops.html

The follow-up to 1973's Ringo. Ringo featured all four of The Beatles on various tracks, but this album only has guest appearances from John.

I'm going to say this: If literally anyone else on Earth had made this album, it wouldn't have worked. Ringo just has this natural charm and charisma. If anyone else were singing, I'd probably give it a low rating and forget about it completely. Ringo, however, pulls it off.

19 Aug 2014: Percy "Thrills" Thrillington/"Thrillington" (1977)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/07/terrifying-locals-by-terriers.html

Percy "Thrills" Thrillington decides to defy musical convention by having his first and only album be an orchestral version of Paul and Linda McCartney's Ram. I don't know how he did it, but Thrills has breathed new life into these classics.

Honestly, I'd forgotten how great Ram was. I'm glad Thrills was here to set me straight.

19 Aug 2014: Jeff Buckley/"Grace" (1994)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/07/marry-christmas-by-ministers.html

This album is on the /mu/ essentials list, and I've had it on my list for a while. It's time, I guess.

The second-best song on here is a cover of Hallelujah. You know, secret chord, David played, pleased the lord. It's probably the best version of the song I've heard, for what it's worth.
Eternal Life is the only ROCK song on here, and, what do you know, it's my favourite.

The rest of the album is just okay. I wanted to like it more than I did. Buckley has a good voice, but the songs aren't anything special at all. Shame about what happened.
