| Today, we finish up DLC between RB2 and 3. Tomorrow, I'll review just whatever, then we're back on the first of May to do the next game. Sad to say, I will not be going over Rock Band The Beatles or Rock Band Green Day, due to having already reviewed all of those albums.
Also, as a note, I'm getting pretty close to running out of space to post these reviews. I might have to go down to one a day, or start posting reviews that are dated 2008. That should be fun.
29 Apr 2015: DLC Week 147: R.E.M. (done) and T.Rex (done) Week 148: The Jimi Hendrix Experience's Are You Experienced? (done), plus Valleys of Neptune as a single (done) Week 149: Stone Temple Pilots (done), and today's second review Week 150: Rock Band 3
29 Apr 2015: Buckcherry/"15" (2005) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2014/12/julio-and-case-of-missing-number-of.html
This album features what I assume to be the band's biggest hit, Crazy Bitch, plus Sorry, which I've also heard before. The RYM reviews are complaining about "misogyny". Not sure why I'm surprised. They're determined to remove all meaning from that word by using it to describe fucking everything, then complain that other people are doing the same thing to "rape". Fucking idiots.
The album cover is pretty bad. I don't know how they agreed on a finger. Just a finger. Next 2 You[sic] is actually surprisingly pretty good. |

| Today, I'll be reviewing two recent releases for that Record Store Day thing.
30 Apr 2015: Stone Sour/"Meanwhile in Burbank" (2015) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2015/04/julio-and-case-of-missing-spark-by.html
A while back, Stone Sour announced that they'd be doing an album of covers. Either I read it wrong, or that's a half-truth. I misremembered what I read. The plan was for three EPs consisting of nothing but covers.
This is an EP of five covers, from Alice in Chains, Judas Priest, KISS, Metallica, and Black Sabbath. I like that none of these songs are the band's absolute most famous, so we haven't heard them a million times (besides maybe Love Gun).
I wish the cover of Heading Out to the Highway was a bit more, you know, heavy. I'm not really sure I believe it as it is. The last line of Love Gun was performed in such a way that I would never have guessed it was Corey Taylor.
The highlight is Children of the Grave. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's better than the original, but it's a really good cover. I don't think anyone not affiliated with Black Sabbath in some way could have done a better job. |

| 30 Apr 2015: Foo Fighters/"Songs from the Laundry Room" (2015) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2015/04/julio-and-case-of-missing-proud-by.html
Two demos of songs from their (Dave's) debut (now twenty years old), one unreleased cover, one new song.
The demo of Alone + Easy Target really makes me glad that Dave shortened it. This version plods along and goes absolutely nowhere. Notably, though, the demo is from 1991 (you know, Nirvana and shit). The Big Me demo is great, but that's mostly because it's fucking Big Me. There's not much reason to listen to the demo over the final product.
The cover of Kids in America is definitely 100% the best version I've ever heard. Empty-Handed sounds exactly like the kind of song that wasn't good enough to make it onto the album. Since it's Sonic fucking Highways we're talking about, that's an accomplishment.
Basically, the only thing here of any substance is the cover of Kids in America. You can tell they had fun with it, and it's the best thing they've released since Wasting Light. There's no way in hell I'd recommend this before Five Songs and a Cover or Medium Rare. |

| 01 May 2015: "The Beatles No. 2" by The Beatles
Japan's second album from The Beatles. It's got some tracks no one cares about, like Not a Second Time, Devil in Her Heart, and A Taste of Honey, but, like, it's mostly good. It's kind of hard to fuck up too badly with The Beatles. |

| 01 May 2015: Selections from LEGO Rock Band
LEGO Rock Band came out in 2009 as a "family" game. Harmonix made sure to not make it a "kids" game, but rather one that the whole family would enjoy. The problem is that most of the setlist is flash-in-the-pan kiddie-pandering garbage. But there are also some legitimately great songs.
01 May 2015: A-G Albums I've already reviewed: Blink-182/"Enema of the State" (1999) Blur/"Blur" (1997) Bon Jovi/"Slippery When Wet" (1986) Bryan Adams/"Reckless" (1984) David Bowie/"Let's Dance" (1983) Elton John/"Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" (1973) Europe/"The Final Countdown" (1986) Foo Fighters/"There is Nothing Left to Lose" (1999)
So, like, how did Summer of 69 get into a "family-friendly" game? It's completely about boning. It's not even obtuse about it like Crocodile Rock; it's just straight-up about boning.
01 May 2015: Carl Douglas/"Kung Fu Fighting and Other Great Love Songs" (1974) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2015/01/julio-and-case-of-missing-2014-by-years.html
The single greatest title for an album in the history of mankind. The single greatest album artwork in the history of mankind. Kung-Fu Fighting is also one of the greatest songs in the history of mankind, so it makes sense. Funky Billy Chin is my favourite.
Just so you know, my 4/5 rating for this album isn't a "joke" or "ironic", it's a really nice album that I liked a lot more than I was expecting. Carl wasn't lying when he said "great" love songs. The final instrumental is pointless, though. |

The greatest punk rock band in the history of mankind. By which I mean they're garbage.
The song they chose for LEGO Rock Band, Girls and Boys, is the most generic, uninspired garbage. It's the worst song on the album that isn't a filler instrumental intro track. |

Tunstall/"Eye to the Telescope" (2004) Lostprophets/"Liberation Transmission" (2006) Queen/"News of the World" (1978) Queen/"News of the World" (1978)
02 May 2015: Katrina and the Waves/"Walking on Sunshine" (1983) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2015/01/julio-and-case-of-missing-skype-by.html
Every once in a while, someone writes and performs a song that is absolutely, 100% perfect. A song with literally zero flaws, written and performed in a way that transcends music itself. Walking on Sunshine is that song. Shame about the rest of the album.
OKAY WHAT THE FUCK WHAT HAPPENED TO WALKING ON SUNSHINE IT WAS A PERFECT SONG NOW IT'S LIKE HORRIBLE HOW Apparently, the 1985 version was the perfect one, and this one is different and also garbage. Don't make the same mistake I did. |

The four new tracks advertised on the cover are the worst tracks here*. The live and demo versions are neat, but I still feel kind of ripped off, and I didn't even pay for it. *The studio outtake of Been Caught Stealing is worse. It's indescribably bad. |

This will mark the "first" game I don't do the complete setlist of. I refuse to review The Beach Boys, Amy Winehouse, The B-52s, etc. It's all garbage and there's no point to me reviewing it.
06 May 2015: A-B Albums I've already reviewed: Anthrax/"Among the Living" (1987) Avenged Sevenfold/"City of Evil" (2005) Blondie/"Parallel Lines" (1978)

Get Up, Stand Up was a poor choice for Rock Band 3. It's not a very good song, mostly due to the whole "yeah I get it dude can we move on now" thing the chorus has going on. The only real standout on this album is I Shot the Sheriff. The rest is just whatever. |

Why do double albums exist? Whoever came up with that format should be shot. I don't care if The Beatles did it, 99% of all double albums are absolute garbage (statistic per the National Association of Disgruntled Statisticians). I can't think of a single non-The White Album instance in which a double album wouldn't have been better as a single album. You aren't The Beatles, you can't do double albums. Stop trying.
This album in particular has a lot of small tracks that really serve no purpose. This album really should have been a single. 25 or 6 to 4 / The Road |

I'm probably alone in this, but I like the version of I Feel Good they used in RB3 more than the more famous version. This album features the famous version. Even though the whole "do do do do do do do" thing is iconic and whatever, I can't say I care for it.
