BONUS REVIEW: "Mardi Gras" by Creedence Clearwater Revival http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/01/by.html This album exists because Tom Fogerty left the band, and John Fogerty is an asshole. John refused to even make this album unless the other guys sang/wrong a third of the album each. He left after this album for a solo career. The result is a more country-y album. It's better than you'd think, actually. It's not as good as, say, Cosmo's Factory, but it's at least on-par with their previous effort, Pendulum. And it goes without saying that it's much better than Willy and the Poor Boys.

04 Oct 2012: "Up" by R.E.M. People like Up. They call it R.E.M.'s last good album or something. I really enjoyed Collapse Into Now, but hey. This album is good, but not great.

BONUS REVIEW: "Machine Head" by Deep Purple http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/01/never-again-by-lives.html Ian Gillan, my nemesis. Smoke on the Water would be a great song if the riff weren't horrible. Such a shame. The title of best song on the album, however, goes to Lazy. Goddamn. I guess I'm doing the other three pre-Mk. III albums. come on. come on. let's go space truckin'

that's mah boy first time I heard smoke on the water was an amazing live version, so when I heard the studio I was utterly shocked. If I hadn't heard smoke on the water so many times, it might be okay. But I just can't listen to it anymore.

05 Oct 2012: "Never Say Die!" by Black Sabbath This is the last album Ozzy did with the band. I hope it's good The only track I'd heard before today is the title track, which is pretty great. However, the other songs are too long for their own good, and this album generally overstays its welcome. It's not bad, but it's still just okay.

BONUS REVIEW: "satanoscillatemymetallicsonatas" by Soundgarden http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/01/serect-of-isle-of-wight-by-some-guy.html Spaced out, it reads "Satan Oscillate My Metallic Sonatas". It's a palindrome. SatanOscillateMyMetallicSonatas satanoScillateMyMetallicsOnataS It's an EP, which is good because I needed something short for today. It starts with a cover of Into the Void with lyrics from a speech from a politician or something. It... works surprisingly well. Nice job. After that? A cover of Devo's Girl You Want. Better than the original. Next? A cover of Stray Cat Blues. Pretty good, dog Then it's a then-released original and a live version of Slaves and Bulldozers. Both pretty good.

06 Oct 2012: "Wrecking Ball" by Bruce Springsteen This marks the first album I've reviewed from Spotify. Yay. "when it's free and easy to use spotify who needs piracy" Oh, I don't know. When commercials interrupt my music? The references to "God" and "Jesus" and whatever are sparse enough to not be annoying/alienating. However, Rocky Ground is pretentious as fuck. Also, it features a chick. And she is rapping. What is happening Two pretentious tracks in a row?! Oh no I would love to give this a 4, but pretentiousness takes this album down to a 3.5.

BONUS REVIEW: "Garage Inc." by Metallica http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/01/i-could-be-your-railroad-by.html Twenty-seven songs, all of which are covers. Let's do this shit Starting with filler is a bold move, but not unprecedented in the Metallica catalogue. Now, to compare every cover to its original if I have heard it/remember it (like, i've heard turn the page and whiskey in the jar a bunch, but fuck me if i can remember them): Sabbra Cadabra: Nowhere near as great as the original, but I still like it. Astronomy: Not as good as the original, but much better than I was expecting. Tuesday's Gone: Not even close. Out-of-key Run to the Hills: A very nice touch. Much better than the original Breadfan: Better than the original, since the original is garbage. Stone Cold Crazy: Ugh. I love both versions. Call it a tie. Overkill: Worse, due to really muffled vocals. All the Motorhead covers are like that for some reason.

07 Oct 2012: "Making Mirrors" by Gotye Another album I can't find on Filestube, so Spotify it is. I think that by doing this album, I've made it obvious that I'm a fan of Somebody That I Used to Know. I also enjoy Call Me Maybe. This album came out in 2011, which was one of the strongest years for music already. This album has a bunch of good songs, and a few great songs. I'd recommend it.

BONUS REVIEW: "Straight Between the Eyes" by Rainbow http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/01/hey-mister-can-we-have-our-ball-back-by.html Another album with good old Joe Lynn Turner. Average old Joe Lynn Turner, anyway. Album cover's horrible. The second track on this album was actually in Vice City Stories, on Emotion radio thing. It's very good, bro The first thing I should say here: this album is much better than JLT/Rainbow's previous effort, Difficult to Cure. Tearin' Out My Heart is the single best *NSYNC cover I have ever heard Similarly, Power is an amazing Kanye West cover You will enjoy this album if you enjoy generic rock music with 1980s production values. I sure do.

BONUS REVIEW: "Down to Earth" by Ozzy Osbourne http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/01/stop-kicking-baklava-in-my-eye-by-you.html Welp. First thing: horrible album cover. OZZY DIED FOR OUR SINS DOG I don't mind Zakk Wylde when he isn't all up in my grill about being Zakk Wylde. Unfortunately, Facing Hell features Zakk Wylde at his most Zakk Wylde-y. HEY GUYS REMEMBER HOW WE'RE POLLUTING THE EARTH STOP THAT SERIOUSLY NOW I WILL SING ABOUT THIS FOR FIVE MINUTES This album is about how I expected it to be. Pretty bad.

09 Oct 2012: "Machina II: The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music" by Smashing Pumpkins Released as three EPs and one album, this album is nothing if not disappointing. Wait, a double album?! My version is missing songs oh dear Well, whatever. I get the gist of it. And the gist is very mediocre. Maybe the guy who put this on mediafire TRICKED ME I'm just really bored by this. official jakey impressions for smashing pumpkins albums pre-teargarden Gish: pretty okay but lots of filler Siamese Dream: better but still kind of fillery Mellon Collie: super-good no complaints Adore: amazing recommended so hard Machina I: their best ever no contest Machina II: mediocre as FUCK Zeitgeist: very good if uninspired

10 Oct 2012: "Снова в СССР" by Paul McCartney A Russian cover album by good old Paul McCartney. As you may have guessed, the title translates to "Back in the U.S.S.R.". It begins with Kansas City, which he covered while he was in The Beatles. The original cover is superior. Ain't That a Shame was also covered on John Lennon's covers album. Lennon's was superior. In the end, however, this album was kind of disappointing, but no more so than the rest of his '80s material.

BONUS REVIEW: "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" by Van Halen http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2011/01/you-dont-have-to-say-by-whenever-you.html Or Fuck, if you prefer. I have a good feeling about this, since the filler review I used for this just said "fuck". Overall, this album is good. Not as good as OU812 or 5150, but close.

11 Oct 2012: "Meddle" by Pink Floyd Welp. I skipped Atom Heart Mother because fuck that. This album has all of the problems that I assumed Atom Heart Mother would have. It's boring, for one. ECHOES IS TOO LONG ALSO would not recommend

| I like meddle
it's nice
Atom Heart Mother has an uninteresting and generally unsettling orchestral song for 20 minutes and then a bunch of acoustic tunes, where as this one is all Sir Pink and the Floyds |

13 Oct 2012: "Overexposed" by Maroon 5 Payphone makes no sense for a variety of reasons. 1: It's 2012. Payphones don't even exist. 2: It's 2012. Everyone has a cellphone. 3: It's 2012. Maroon 5 are a huge success, and I doubt Adam Levine would be short on change. Maybe he can ask Cee-Lo Green for the change in his pocket. Maybe it's not enough?
