the final track accounts for half of the album's length and it just drags on and on and fucking on |

| BONUS REVIEW: Whitesnake/"1987 Versions" (1987) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2008/05/1987-versions-by-whitesnake.html
this is a japan-only EP featuring outtakes from the 1987 album
it includes looking for love and you're gonna break my heart again, which were the two best songs on 1987 except they weren't on 1987 in north america because fuck north america right?
there's a rerecorded version of standing in the shadow, from slide it in ho god i am glad that this didn't make the album it's basically what the original standing in the shadow would have been if it were an overproduced mess there is nothing about it that makes it worth listening to
there's a rerecording of one of slide it in's bonus tracks, need your love so bad, which is a cover of a blues song by some guy named mertis john jr. now, i'd never heard the slide it in version of this one, so i listened to both there's not much difference; both are filler tracks but i'd give the edge to slide it in's version for sounding less over-polished
finally, we're at the first track on the album (i did the review out of order to make it flow better) this ep begins with here i go again, but not the version from the 1987 album or the version from saints an' sinners it begins with the weird-ass radio mix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lFBkzCm7-U i've heard it on the radio before (not every time i've heard here i go again on the radio though) but fuck dude it's still weird as fuck i don't dislike it it's kind of neat SUPER-'80s like especially that keyboard but since when has that ever bothered me? the only thing i don't like is that he still says "drifter" instead of "hobo"
track listing so you're not confused by the MCBB review: 01: Here I Go Again (radio version) 02: Standing in the Shadow '87 03: Looking for Love 04: You're Gonna Break My Heart Again 05: Need Your Love so Bad '87 |

this is the band's only album nirvana would later cover white lace and strange and do it so much better
there's a cover of hendrix's red house here as well that is just okay |

| 12 May 2018: Arctic Monkeys/"Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino" (2018) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2018/05/dumb-name.html
their newest album i hope to god it's better than AM but i'm not holding my breath
none of the songs in the first half are good the problem is that arctic monkeys guy's voice doesn't work for this sort of music maybe if thom yorke was singing, it would be okay this guy just sounds annoying
the second half of the album is better but still not good |

| 13 May 2018: Slowdive/"Slowdive" (2017) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2018/05/slow-down-sweet-talkin-woman.html
our boy taylor aka peewee aka teal aka led zeppelin reference (aka i don't remember what his username is on this particular forum right now) published a list of the best albums of 2017 on rym the other day and i just noticed it in my notifications so i am going to listen to #1 and probably hate it
the first track is a fancy elevator ride then the vocals come in and are uh okay
against all odds, i actually liked this it's a bit uneven but i had a good time |

| Wow, wasn't expecting that. Nice Also, Tranquility Base Hotel has grown on me a bit after a few listens. Alex's voice does sound strangely off, but there's a lot of neat wordplay and subtle hooks that reveal themselves with each listen. Plus, the album is sonically interesting enough for me to at least put it above AM and Suck It and See T B H. |

14 May 2018: Fuse/"Fuse" (1969) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2018/05/blunder-of-century.html
this band's only album half of the band would go on to become cheap trick
they really should have brought some of these songs back once they had a better singer |

get down to it was, of course, in san andreas i know that sounds like something i'd hop on right away but this is a double album so
the overblown pieces with the choir of women NEED to fuck off i'm listening to a rock album not going to fucking church
a prime example of why double albums should be outlawed it would have been a fine single album
get down to it is pretty much the only song worth anything on this album |

songs like atlantic city just didn't need to exist the band tried harder when performing their songs than they did when writing them, which sometimes works out, but didn't this time |

more like regressive rock am i right
i like the organ on karn evil 9 a lot the second part of the first impression is pretty great; it has like vocals and a cool guitar part and it's actually a good song i cannot overstate how much i liked the track entitled "Karn Evil 9 1st Impression Pt. 2"
karn evil 9 2nd impression reminds me of the monopoly game for PC needless to say, i enjoyed the first three minutes of it as i would a good game of classic-style monopoly (but only if i get to be the thimble) really, karn evil 9 2nd impression should have been split into two tracks like the first impression was; the cool piano part and the dumb silence part after the silence, there's more piano, but by then it's too late and i'm already mad about the minute of silence so basically, to sum it up: karn evil 9 2nd impression is everything that is wrong with progressive rock (to be honest, the silence isn't so bad in retrospect, but i already wrote all that so)
karn evil 9 3rd impression has a neat horn section never thought i'd be complimenting a horn section but there you go the very end of the track is weird
all of the reviews on RYM complain about how overwrought and pretentious this album is so i was expecting to hate it i didn't i actually really liked most of it someone please check and make sure i haven't been replaced by an imposter (the album name sounds more like a buckethead album than an elp album) |

| more like regressive rock am i right10/10 Brain Salad Surgery has grown on me. I used to really dislike the album with just how pointless the whole Karn Evil 9 suite is and how hecking long it takes to get to WELCOME BACK MY FRIENDS. Now I realize Jerusalem and Still You Turn Me On are among the best prog rock songs in existence. karn evil 9 is still too long tho |

i said i'd do one this month and i wasn't lying i was just procrastinating
so what i noticed about this one right off is the presence of actual songs and not just deranged wailing songs like buzzin' fly are legitimately good to the point where i could see myself listening to it again rather than just saying "what the fuck" and never coming back |

| 24 May 2018: Quiet Riot/"Alive and Well" (1999) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2018/05/debatable.html
the title track needs a louder guitar or something it sounds really empty nice noodling solo though
the ritual features kevin dubrow trying to sound dark and intimidating it doesn't work
there's a subpar cover of highway to hell here i know the line is "supposed" to be "season ticket on a one-way ride", but this version is the first time i ever actually heard that when bon scott sings it, it sounds like "she's a nigger on a one-way ride" and no one can convince me otherwise OH JESUS WHAT IS THAT FUCKING SLOW SECTION HOW DO YOU FUCK UP HIGHWAY TO HELL SO BAD
there are also a bunch of rerecorded versions of '80s quiet riot songs that i didn't bother listening to i am not good at this |
