| 16 Nov 2017: The Fireman/"Rushes" (1998) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2017/11/bushes.html
once again, paul mccartney's electronic project
i rated the third album pretty highly for whatever reason, but this one just goes way over my head
this album is a pleasant elevator ride while you're doing something else if i had to devote 100% concentration to this shit, though, i'd be bored out of my goddamn mind |

| 22 Nov 2017: Asia/"Aria" (1994) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2017/11/shown-in-your-eyes.html
kansas may have made the three best progressive rock albums but asia is the most consistent progressive rock band overall to be fair though "progressive rock" is a term that has no inherent meaning so i really can only go by what other people have called it

| 01 Dec 2017: The Beatles/"Please Please Me" (1963) [revisited] http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2017/12/please-please-me-revisited.html
So, I'm out of their albums/compilations/whatever to review. I was going to just stop doing something from them on the first of the month every month, but then I had this idea. The first of every month, I will be moving forward through the discography and RE-REVIEWING IT (re-re-reviewing it in the case of revolver)
so here we gooooooooooooooooooooooooo
i saw her standing there is a PERFECT opener, mostly because of the count-in it's really just a nice song that sets a good tone for their first album
misery honestly doesn't sound very sad i LOVE the piano part
anna flows pretty well from misery but honestly it shouldn't have been after misery misery is such a better song than anna, and while anna is still really good, putting it after misery sells it a bit short
so i'm thinking about chains right now and it's just kind of off i feel like the harmonica should have had more presence throughout, rather than just isolated areas as it is, the song feels like it's missing something
boys is a 10/10 no doubt about it ringo brings a fuckload of charisma to this song i don't even mind that the song features the absolute WORST, MOST OVERUSED rhyme ever (lips/fingertips)
ask me why is one of those "ooh-wooh-wooh-ooh" songs that existed around that time it's good a really nice-sounding guitar and i really can't say anything bad about it
closing off side one is the title track, which is severely underrated
love me do, however, would probably be better in a lower key or something
p.s. i love you kind of just exists easily the least remarkable song here
baby it's you starts with lethargic "sha la la la la la"s the entire song sounds like they're kind of bored
i felt the same way about do you want to know a secret at first but it's a definite grower i still feel that it would be better with john and paul's "doo ba doo" shit
a taste of honey just isn't good it's easily the worst song here, and probably the worst song they'd put on an album until like 1966
there's a place isn't great but it sounds fucking amazing after a taste of honey
twist and shout is a great song, but kind of underwhelming as a closer
i mean yeah this is a great album we already knew how i'd feel but i'm glad i got it into words i suppose |
