Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Empty
PostSubject: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune   Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Icon_minitimeThu Mar 15, 2012 12:36 am

I felt like I had to review this, um, movie. A lot went right, but a lot went not-so-right.

We'll start with the obvious:
The graphics are amazing, even five years later. The jungles and crypts look real. The characters look amazing, and even have realistic wet clothing. Hell, even the hidden treasures are detailed 3D models. The animations are fluid and realistic.
The voice action is amazing. The protagonist, Nathan Drake, is played by Nolan North. You can certainly tell that he has the same voice as Desmond and Deadpool, but they gave him enough of a personality to stand out. I didn't recognise any of the other guys, but they all played their parts extremely well. The dialogue is great; serious when it has to be, but Nate cracks jokes frequently. The characters are all believable, which is a plus. One thing I like was that if you die and the continue point is just before a conversation or something, it doesn't play again. Also, Nate's comments about headshots and the like are infrequent, so they never get stale.
The moviewatch is amazing. Unlike Ezio, Nate doesn't stop if you try to run him off a ledge. You have to really be careful. Aside from this, Nate climbs just like Ezio could. The gunplay is pretty good. Nate doesn't shake when aiming, so missed shots are all on you. Nate can't take many bullets, so you have to use cover well. The enemies will try to flank you, snipe you, chuck grenades at you, and generally use good tactics.

But then there's the story. It starts off well enough. Nate and Elena find a map to El Dorado, so they head to town with Sully and it's all good. They leave Elena behind, and then some plot twists happen. Then more plot twists happen. The plot twists are all superbly executed until... the biggest one. I was sitting there shaking my head at how stupid it was. Fucking Aztecs or Incas or whatever. You get to see how it happened, which does make it less retarded, but then we get a new antagonist who's never really fleshed out. The game just says "HERE IS YOUR NEW ENEMY". The final boss fight wasn't very satisfying, either. It was okay, I guess. It took me a while to realise that you can't kill him before he gets to the helipad.
The ending made me smile, though, so it's all good.

But, despite this, the movie succeeds by the moviewatch and characters alone. I can overlook the lowlights in the story and will give this movie a 9.4/10.
