22 Nov 2015: Empire/"Hypnotica" (2001)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2015/11/julio-and-case-of-missing-not-going-to.html

This is the "hard" rock band called Empire, with Tony Martin.
This should not be confused with the progressive rock band called Empire, with Phil Collins. I'll do that one later.

The songs here sound kind of empty, like they're missing something. The guitars and bass should be louder, I think. The drums are strangely loud, also.

22 Nov 2015: Grand Funk Railroad/"Grand Funk" (1969)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2010/04/god-by-doesnt-exist.html

remember when i was an edgy teenager
good times
at this point i find the idea of there being a god easier to swallow than the whole big bang for no reason/evolution theory
ANYWAY

Got This Thing on the Move would probably have been on every Rock Band list I'd ever made if I'd heard it eight years ago. It would have been perfect for padding the '60s section, really.
A few of these songs could have done with being shorter, really. If they'd spent less time jamming, they probably could have made this a 10/10 album.

23 Nov 2015: Foo Fighters/"Saint Cecilia EP" (2015)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2015/11/julio-and-case-of-missing-friends-by.html

This came out today. It's a five-track EP available for free download on the Foo Fighters website. All five tracks are brand new and were recorded in the Saint Cecilia Hotel in Austin, Texas.
I just hope it's better than Sonic Highways.

The EP begins with the title track, which is a bit repetitive. It could do without the looping "no matter what I say" bit.
The second track, Sean, however, is pretty sweet. The drum fills and the guitar solos are just so good.

Saviour Breath just makes me wonder why the band doesn't try for more guitar solos, really. The small intro solo was pretty sweet, and the main guitar solo, wow. I didn't know Grohl/Smear had it in him. Part of me hopes it was Smear's solo, honestly.

SO
Between this EP, Songs from the Laundry Room, and Sonic Highways itself, we can create a true 10/10 album:

1. Saviour Breath
2. Something from Nothing
3. Sean
4. Outside
5. Kids in America
6. In the Clear
7. The Never-Ending Sigh
8. Subterranean
9. What Did I Do?/God as My Witness

The Never-Ending Sigh would be the worst track on the album, as a note.

Chuck out the rest of it as trash. Destroy the masters and sheet music of I am a River, never letting it see the light of day.

23 Nov 2015: CKY/"Volume One"
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2010/04/hmm-by-reviews.html

CKY of course stands for "Camp Kill Yourself". The first track from this album, 96 Quite Bitter Beings, was in THPS3.
Unfortunately, nothing else is very good.

The big hit here was Everybody Talks, which is that song that goes "it started with a whisperrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and that was when i kissed herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and then she made my lips hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt" you know.
Pretty shitty lyrics, honestly.

24 Nov 2015: Stevie Ray Vaughan/"The Sky is Crying" (1991)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2010/03/jolly-blacksmith-by-with-which.html

SRV's posthumous album. After this, I'm done with the guy.

The title track is, like, a rewrite of Texas Flood. I feel like I've said that before about another one of his songs.
Not a fan of his cover of Little Wing. The original was perfect; it didn't need to be seven minutes long.

25 Nov 2015: "The Art of McCartney" (2014)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2015/11/julio-and-case-of-missing-art-dealer-by.html

A double album of covers of Paul McCartney across all eras by famous artists. I hope it's good. With 34 tracks, how could it not be?
I'm not reviewing the deluxe edition with eight more tracks, because that would drive me insane.

Billy Joel's cover of Maybe I'm Amazed is kind of neat. I like the extra distortion on the guitar solo. It was a great way to start the album.
Bob Dylan's cover of Things We Said Today has a very different feeling than the original. Dylan's age has given his voice a very raspy sound, which goes a long way to making this version memorable.

Heart's Band on the Run is a bit, uh, it feels like they weren't really trying. There isn't much energy to it. I think they should have recorded it in a higher key. I also don't like how Ann doesn't do the screams at all.
Steve Miller's Junior's Farm would have been better forty years ago. Miller's voice doesn't sound the same as it used to, and it's kind of weird.

Brian Wilson did what he could, but he was still stuck with a filler track. Once a filler track, always a filler track.
Connie Bailey Rae is a fucking shitty singer and should never be put anywhere near a Paul McCartney song. She sings like she has some kind of brain damage. She legitimately sounds like she's retarded. I'm not saying that as an insult, she just does.

Willie Nelson's vocals on Yesterday are a bit too hard-edged. I get that it's fifty years later, but if he's performed the song the way he performed Crazy, it would have been perfect.
Barry Gibb's When I'm Sixty-Four is kind of awful. It sounds like he's already 64 (probably because he's 69), which kind of defeats the purpose of the song.

Paul Rodgers's Let Me Roll It is definitely the highlight of the album so far. You could tell that he actually, like, cared.
Roger Daltrey's Helter Skelter would have been amazing forty years ago, when he still had a voice.

Def Leppard's Helen Wheels is the best thing the band ever recorded. That isn't saying much.
The Cure's Hello Goodbye is just annoying.

Billy Joel then returns to do Live and Let Die, and it makes me kind of wish the entire album had just been Billy Joel. The whistling is what makes it absolutely great.
Steve Miller's Hey Jude is pretty bad. He's terrible at holding the notes, and his phrasing is bad.

RANDOM EMO BAND DOING LISTEN TO WHAT THE MAN SAID
Perry Farrell (guy from Jane's Addiction)'s Got to Get You into My Life is a definite highlight.

No clue what happened to Smokey in the past fifty years, but I don't like it. I also don't remember the song he's singing at all.
Alice Cooper's Eleanor Rigby is better than the original. I'm just throwing that out there.

This version of Come and Get It is just like holy shit I was not expecting reggae.
Ending on Sammy Hagar's Birthday was the best move. He was right, I did have a good time.

This would have been better as a single album, really. Or maybe they should have gotten some more younger talent. I don't know.

26 Nov 2015: Bad Religion/"Suffer" (1988)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2010/03/german-fertility-by-triad.html

Not their best work. Around half the songs are just kind of there. No Control is the GOAT Bad Religion album, and I don't think that's going to change no matter how many of their albums I review.

also apparently they allow fifty-one page topics now so we don't need to switch to a third topic

Two whole tracks on this album intentionally misspell their titles. Lame.

The begin of the downhill slide, I suppose. I'm honestly surprised it took this long.

27 Nov 2015: The Rolling Stones/"Dirty Work" (1986)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2010/03/fucking-by-fucks.html

one of my best ideas

One Hit to the Body is, like, incredibly '80s. I like it a lot, in a weird way.
I wish every band limited their filler instrumentals to thirty seconds. That would be nice.

It's better than Tattoo You and Undercover, but that's not really saying much of anything. It's obviously not in the same league as Beggars' Banquet, Goats' Head Soup, and Emotional Rescue, but it's, you know, fine.

28 Nov 2015: Dio/"Killing the Dragon" (2002)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2015/11/julio-and-case-of-missing-tourists-by.html

Dio's second-to-last album, released after the abysmal Angry Machines and Magica. This album is the only Dio album to feature Doug Aldrich, and is a return to form, sort of. I mean, there's nothing as memorable as the best of his '80s material, but it's fine. A lot of filler toward the end, though.

gh1 bands no one cares about are my favourite
their last album was better

here is a quote from an RYM review that reeks of pretentiousness:
"I'm not sure WHY they chose a single tailored to a target audience not sophisticated enough to enjoy the rest of their music."
WOW
i mean shit dog
this is pretty generic modern alternative rock bullshit
the lead single is one of the worse songs on the album, sure, but this is hardly mozart
some generic-ass rock musicians play generic-ass rock
just because the lead single is slightly more generic than the rest of it doesn't mean that the rest is suddenly "sophisticated"

This album begins with the best possible song to begin with, Chic 'n' Stu.
SOAD would be a better band if they weren't political. Their style of music is impossible to take seriously.

This album would have been better if it were about half as long.
