Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Empty
PostSubject: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag   Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Icon_minitimeThu Apr 25, 2013 2:21 pm

This unreleased game which we have almost no details of is really pissing me off.

In 2007, the original Assassin's Creed came out. It was fun, it was different, but it had its flaws. Ultimately, I was able to overlook these flaws because of how new the experience was.
In 2009, Assassin's Creed II came out. It fixed most of the problems of the original, and also felt new and exciting because of the entirely new setting.
In 2010, Brotherhood came out. It put some improvements onto the second, and was technically a better game, despite the ending being shit. It didn't feel very exciting, though.
In 2011, Revelations came out. Technically, it was the best in the series. However, by this point, playing an Assassin's Creed game felt like a chore. I enjoyed myself, but I didn't really want to play it. There was no point where I said "man I wish I was playing Revelations right now".

Last year, Assassin's Creed III came out. It was awful. It started out good, with Haytham being a good protagonist. The twist regarding his character was very well done. Then you play as Connor. Jesus fucking Christ, is Connor a dull character. He has no personality and his voice is incredibly monotone, in total contrast to Ezio. Ezio was fun and had a great deal of personality. Connor has less personality than fucking Altair.
But they also revamped the control scheme and made it infinitely worse! And the new setting is shit because of the lack of tall buildings and things to climb! And did I mention that the tutorial is over three hours long? It's like fucking Kingdom Hearts II all over again, but without the light at the end of the tunnel. Instead of exiting the tutorial with a GIANT FIGHT AGAINST AXEL IN A FIERY CIRCLE WHERE THE FLOOR IS LAVA AND OH SHIT ROXAS HAS TWO KEYBLADES, the tutorial doesn't end.
Assassin's Creed III was absolutely murdered by the yearly release model, as well as THE CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE DOG
If you want a fucking CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE, WATCH A FUCKING MOVIE YOU FUCKING RETARD

And now, in 2013, for the fifth year in a row, there will be an Assassin's Creed game. Since it's about PIRATES, it will be playing to none of the series' strengths. The ship combat in III was laughable, and the swordfighting has always been boring.
Stay tuned in 2014 for Assassin's Creed V: The Wildest West of All.

Let's talk about one of the two major reasons AC3 was shit: the setting. Colonial Boston is completely uninteresting. There were no buildings to climb, and everything looked so similar.

If you want something in the 18th century, why not the French Revolution? The French Revolution is such a rich, unexplored period in history. The architecture is much more suited to this sort of game, and Napoleon could be your fearless leader who is demonised by the templars. You could climb on castles. Fucking castles. And there's no way Jacques McAssassinpants could be any less interesting than Connor. Vive la France!

If you want those crazy Brits, why not Britain during the Industrial Revolution? You could climb on smokestacks and shit. Maybe the templars want to produce a thing for the thing they have going on, so they're resorting to child labour? Industry boomed in the entire first world, so you could substitute Britain for anywhere. It could tackle some stupid issue like pollution or something.

If you want something in AMERICA, why not New York City during the Great Depression? The Great Depression was certainly important enough, and they could have some templar guy be masterminding it or something. Maybe have a templar in charge of the unfinished Empire State Building? And the player could have to climb it at different stages of completion. Or make Hoover a templar! The possibilities are endless sort of.

If you want something more modern, how about Berlin before the fall of the Wall? The templars could be the Communists, and you would have to help some people by crossing the wall a bunch. Climbing the Berlin Wall could be a fun mechanic, because every time you cross for story reasons, the Communists could beef up security there, so you'd have to climb it somewhere else. Maybe in a Revelations-style sequel, you could go to Soviet Russia and climb all over Moscow.

There. Four completely different ideas that are all better than the American Revolution from a gameplay standpoint at least. The entire appeal of the series is climbing on shit, and AC3 completely fucked it up.
