Mario rounds the final corner of Rainbow Road, just ahead of Luigi and Bowser. Bowser chucks a blue shell at Mario, hitting both him and Luigi. Bowser passes the two and slips on a banana peel! Mario brushes himself and his kart off and grabs his final crate. As the roulette wheel spins, Bowser heads to the finish line. Mario activates his power-up right away, not knowing what it is. Mario is encased in a bullet bill, a look of relief spreading over his face. The bullet bill knocks Bowser off the course and propels Mario across the finish line!
Mario, Luigi and Bowser walk up to the podium solemnly, single tears streaming down their respective cheeks. Mario gets the Special Cup trophy and hoists it over his head, smiling at Rosalina. Luigi holds the silver medal up and gives the crowd a thumbs up. Bowser melts his bronze into a knife with his fire breath and uses it to stab Mario. Mario falls into Luigi's arms, a final tear streaming its way onto the podium. Luigi grabs Mario, several single tears streaming down his cheeks. "Mario, I..." Mario puts his index finger to Luigi's lips, smiles and says "The Game" before fading into nothing. Luigi closes Mario's eyes, and lies him down on the podium, a single tear streaming down his face.
