this EP has two songs that made it to their next album, we must obey i'll tell you: they picked the correct two songs there's a cover of van halen's DOA here it's fine i was hoping it would be better it's not like i hold DLR-era van halen on a pedestal |

| 15 Apr 2023: Metallica/"72 Seasons" (2023) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2023/04/18-years.html
in case you were wondering, 72 seasons is exactly 18 years i didn't know what happened with metallica in 2005 (no album releases, no roster changes, etc.)
so it's a new metallica album for the first time in seven years (or 28 seasons, if you'd prefer) they're still doing that thing where their songs are all really long (only two songs under five minutes) legitimately: they should have split this into two albums around 40 minutes each and released them in different years
to sum up this album: it's a metallica album if you like metallica, you will think this album is at least pretty okay if you dislike metallica, this won't win you over
for what it's worth, it's probably the best metallica album since master of puppets there is not a single bad song on it but don't go expecting anything on it to enter your metallica top 10 also the two songs under five minutes long are the best two
as i recall: 1. Master of Puppets 2. Kill 'em All 3. Ride the Lightning 4. 72 Seasons
5. The Black Album 6. Hardwired to Self-Destruct 7. ... and Justice for All 8. Death Magnetic
9. St. Anger
10. Reload 11. Load
(the black album and AJFA are the two albums where they're like partially really good and partially boring as hell) (enter sandman is still a gay song, but i really like sad but true and wherever i may roam)

their last two albums haven't been great their most recent album was downright bad this album will not age well due to its use of cringy 2020s slang and memes ritual would be good but then he starts rapping which is just raping the song |

one of the more praised songs from this album is his cover of soundgarden's rusty cage maybe it's just because i'm particularly attached to the original, but i wouldn't call it one of the better songs here |

| 24 Apr 2023: Ratt/"Ratt" (1999) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2023/04/titled-after-self.html
a self-titled album 15 years after you were relevant imagine if ratt had had a good singer could never happen
strangely, ratt's best album it would be an absolutely brilliant 35-minute album shame that extra 15 minutes is there (tracks 2-4) |

i like unsung more now than i did whenever i reviewed this so i thought i'd give it another chance unsung is a cool song the rest of the songs are not cool they are aggressive, and not particularly good at it sorry for believing the band's biggest song was representative of their music at all |
