| 31 Mar 2019: Yngwie J. Malmsteen/"Blue Lightning" (2019) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2019/03/blue-blue-electric-blue.html
this is partially(?) a covers album yngwie needed to find a better singer
the cover of foxy lady sucks and i'm not much of a fan of the song to begin with (it always struck me as a worse purple haze) oh speaking of purple haze this cover is also bad; the cover of foxy lady was honestly better
i've never been much of a fan of while my guitar gently weeps this cover does nothing to change that
shreddy metal cover of paint it black we didn't need this we didn't want this we don't deserve this garbage
he can shred over paint it black but he can't change the smoke on the water riff ever |

airbag is exactly the same as on ok computer pearly is the song that will make you happy with your purchase right away a nice instrumental follows polyethylene is the best song here by a mile
a very good and worthwhile little listen for radiohead fans i own the CD |

| 03 Apr 2019: The Beach Boys/"Pet Sounds" (1966) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2019/04/bark-bark.html
i've long said that 30-45 minutes is the ideal length for an album this album falls right in that range at 36, and is heralded as a classic problem: i hate the beach boys i'm in the mood to torture myself though so let's get to it
man, wouldn't it be nice if i actually enjoyed things i'll tell you right now that what i hate about the beach boys is the backing vocals where they're like "wooh-ooh-ooh" or "bup bup bup"
wouldn't it be nice opens the album and it's okay i don't like the harmonies but i could see it being a grower if i let it
i can't make out any of the words on you still believe in me when they try to harmonise (even if i think they're just saying the title) it's also kind of boring and not a good song i don't like the pointless "aaa-AAAAAAA-aaaaa-AAAAAA" falsettos toward the end strongly hate them
a good singer? that's not me (you could have told me this was a ramones song and i would have believed you) track four is straight filler; undeniably track six is the first time i've ever been glad for a filler instrumental's existence
sloop john b is actually good though not going to lie god only knows would be good if it had a different singer and cut the "ba ba ba ba" shit out i know there's an answer and here today are okay which is nice
what the fuck is that title track
better than i thought it would be still not good for the most part |

coincidentally the same year as ozzy put out his song shot in the dark, making this album instantly IRRELEVANT |

remember when i said i'd be doing all the new rock band songs as they came out well they've released a lot of dumb bullshit but this dumb bullshit seems tolerable
sounds like post-brothers the black keys sounds like nearly every song could be used in one of those youtube trick shot videos |

| 13 Apr 2019: Nirvana/"Live at the Paramount" (2019) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2019/04/live-at-paramount-by-nirvana.html
milk it this is a release of a halloween 1991 show, 28 years later because someone wanted money
disclaimer: celebrity worship culture is bullshit i don't give a shit about famous people's political views or whatever i enjoy nirvana's music; i don't care how liberal they were i wouldn't care if they ate babies and had diaper fetishes (even if the combination is worse than either separately) unless it's something like rage against the machine where it permeates every single song, it doesn't matter nirvana have nice, wholesome songs about (perhaps unjustly) getting in trouble at school and having to sit out at recess, something we can all relate to
opening with jesus doesn't want me for a sunbeam was an interesting choice actually a very good one because i never really especially cared for the unplugged cover they did and i like this one a lot honestly the four tracks they picked to open the album (jesus doesn't want me for a sunbeam / aneurysm / drain you / school) was an amazing decision because it appeals to my own tastes shame about the next two tracks though
i still say smells like teen spirit is in too high of a key for kurt's voice i like the way his voice dies at the end of the song here, though
i mean, i know what polly is about but it's still a good song i like the harmonies here (the fast-paced rock version from from the muddy banks of whiskah is still the best one though)
every time i hear sliver, i wish they'd done a version with all five verses (the "grampa had a cigarette" verse i think was only on the with the lights out demo) love buzz is a song i fell out of love with around 2008 but now i'm back in love with it
live endless, nameless is uh interesting |
