i was going to review the other rock band DLC album today but
1. i'd never heard of it (and i'm pretty sure NO ONE has ever heard of it)
2. i got really fucking annoyed by the guy's voice within seconds

25 May 2017: Rick James/"Throwin' Down" (1982)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2017/05/throwin-up.html

the best song here features the temptations
it was originally their song but was written by rick james so i wouldn't really call it a cover

this album also features a song where rick james and a woman are singing how much they love eachother
never thought i'd see the day
hear the day

26 May 2017: David Bowie/"1. Outside" (1995)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2017/05/2-inside.html

i haven't reviewed a david bowie album since his death so i figure it's time to get back up on that horse

bowie tried hard and that's the problem
filler segues try to make this a concept album or some shit and it just doesn't work

the voyeur of utter destruction, however, is definitely worth a listen

28 May 2017: Frank Sinatra/"Close to You" (1957)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2017/05/closed-to-you.html

if you like sinatra ballads i have got an album for you
if you don't like sinatra ballads well uh

the real problem here is that every song can be mistaken for every other song
there's nothing to break it up

29 May 2017: Hour Glass/"Power of Love" (1968)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2017/05/rest-in-peace.html

R.I.P. Gregg Allman
(I would have done a review for Chris Cornell last week but I'm pretty sure I've done every single studio album he's done)

now what screams allman brothers more than
1960s PSYCHEDELIC ROCK
okay now we're moving down south

okay so
this album has like two tracks that are kind of psychedelic (like you could hear that that's where they WANTED to go)
then it becomes southern rock and stays there
that's not a bad thing honestly

the album proper ends on a cover of norwegian wood of all things
it's like they said "OH SHIT RIGHT THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A PSYCHEDELIC ALBUM" and went all-in on the last track

01 Jun 2017: "Beatles Forever" by The Beatles

side A is pretty nice; tier-two tracks from help!
side B is a filler track from help! and a filler b-side
ho well

after this, i've only got three more of these so in october i'll have to review actual albums for the first of the month again

i'm going to be honest: this album is better than i thought it would be

11 Jun 2017: Pearl Jam/"Live on Two Legs" (1998)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2017/06/youre-tearin-me-apart.html

happy birthday to me

i don't really like this version of daughter
it has an entire additional ending section that just isn't very good

the album as a whole is a bit too heavy on no code and yield; i would have liked more tracks from vs.
i suppose that's just a problem with single-show live albums in general though
albums like guns n' roses' live era and nirvana's from the muddy banks of the whiskah are how i feel live albums SHOULD be done; take the best songs and performances over a period of years and meld them together
i mean, sure, albums like pearl jam's drop in the park and nirvana's live at reading can be 10/10s, but those were recorded right after 10/10 studio albums
this album was recorded right after what were at the time pearl jam's two worst albums (but then they'd HAVE to be after the trio of ten, vs., and vitalogy), so a lot of classics and favourites of mine are missing
according to my RYM ratings, i actually liked both no code and yield, but i can only remember six songs between the two by just reading the titles (habit, red mosquito, given to fly, pilate, do the evolution, and in hiding), and only half of those made this album
i suppose i should be glad that it was BEFORE riot act and binaural though

12 Jun 2017: Rise Against/"Wolves" (2017)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2017/06/youd-better-run-like-devil-cause-theyre.html

the newest album from
these guys

liberal politics?! my favourite
my favourite thing to hate

how many walls is the worst it gets
he may as well have had a song where he just sings "fuck trump and fuck white people" over and over again

i'm really glad that america chose to make itself great again, despite the protests from dumb liberals (redundant)

http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2017/06/shake-it-up-baby-now.html

the beatles's twist and shout is just one of those covers that has completely eclipsed the original in every way
