Scorpions claim to have built a house on rock, but that's not really an accomplishment, since Starship built an entire city on rock and roll in the '80s. |

I swear, Bon Jovi get worse and more generic every album. JBJ Mk. IV's voice is certainly at its worst here.
As uninspired as the music is, the cover art is almost worse. I bet the album doesn't even come in a jewel case. It's just little fucking envelope with the album name written in pen. |

| last day of the year i finally remembered to change the forum back to orange let's do this shit
31 Dec 2015: Carly Rae Jepsen/"Emotion" (2015) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2015/12/julio-and-case-of-missing-hangover-by.html
Everyone seems to love this album. They're describing a Carly Rae Jepsen album with pretentious hipster terminology. I am insanely curious as to what the album did to deserve this.
The album begins with Run Away with Me, which features really annoying instrumentation to open the album, then it's really quiet for no reason. I am afraid to turn it up, however, since the annoying instrument was pretty loud. Then the song gets louder and it's just an annoying song, especially the backing vocals.
The title track is in a bad key for Carly. Either that, or her voice is soaked in a bad effect for it. Either way, her vocals sound pretty horrid here. The lead single is third. Luckily, it's a really good song. I had it in the "national anthem" link up top for a while. I really, really, really, really, really, really like this song.
While I Really Like You uses repetition to great results, Gimme Love is just annoying. gimme a different song gimme a different song gimme a different song gimme a different song gimme a different song gimme a different song All That is the same ballad we've heard around a million times by a million different women.
Boy Problems should be a good song, but there's something there that just doesn't work. Carly mumbles too much, I think. I've got no complaints about Making the Most of the Night.
Your Type is another "I've heard this song before by some other lady". Let's Get Lost in generic pop shit, with annoying "ooh ooh ooh ooh"s. I am so fucking sick of that shit.
L.A. Hallucinations is fine. Whatever. Warm Blood is just really bad. Nothing about it is any good. The vocals, the genre, nothing.
The final song is whatever.
Very disappointing album. I don't know why expected anything different, really, since RYM seems to love it. I guess this album is 2deep4me, which I never thought I'd say about a fucking Carly Rae Jepsen album. "maturing as an artist" apparently means making worse music |

| 31 Dec 2015: AC/DC/"High Voltage" (1975) http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2010/02/goodbye-guys-by-guys.html
When AC/DC were introduced to Americans, it was with a compilation of the High Voltage and T.N.T. albums. I'm going to review both of the original Australian releases at some point. This album is AC/DC's true debut album. Oddly, the song High Voltage was on their next album, in a sort of Houses of the Holy/Sheer Heart Attack situation.
The first song on AC/DC's first album is called Baby, Please Don't Go. I mean, yeah, it's what you'd imagine a '70s AC/DC song would sound like, but I found it amusing. You Ain't Got a Hold on Me is probably the best song here. OH WAIT SPOKE TOO SOON IT'S ACTUALLY LOVE SONG
Love Song is pretty funny, but mostly because it's AC/DC doing a soft, sort of tender song.
Despite a lot of filler in the middle, the album really picks up at the end with its three best songs. |

Johnny Cash's voice doesn't fit with the '50s-ass backing vocals here. Naturally, they reuse I Walk the Line, which is fine by me.
'50s album titles were the equivalent of YouTube clickbait titles. |

Opening with My Funny Valentine really just sets the album up to fall. You're really just selling all the other tracks short by opening with far and away the best song. |

The Clash's final album, and supposedly a terrible one. Due to my Rock Band/Guitar Hero shenanigans, I'm at the point where I feel obligated to finish their discography. After this is a TRIPLE ALBUM
Drum machines?! Oh man
I actually rated this higher than the RYM average of 1.87. I gave it a 2. |

The first track incorporates CD skipping into the song. It's shit. |

Speaking of finishing discographies,
Green River released two EPs and an album before disbanding (Mark Arm would later form Mudhoney). The Dry as a Bone EP and the Rehab Doll album were combined into one album called - get this - Dry as a Bone/Rehab Doll. Then there's this one. Swallow My Pride was rerecorded for Rehab Doll, but nothing else here was acknowledged on Dry as a Bone/Rehab Doll. Other than Corner of My Eye, I can sort of understand why. |

it's not a live album they just had no fucking clue how to name albums back then
I don't think they had time to finish this album. The mixing is all over the place, often burying Roy's vocals. The performances also tend to be lethargic. It's a pretty obvious cash-in attempt.
Ooby Dooby would later be rerecorded for a compilation thing, where it would be performed much better. Rock Band using rerecordings was the way to go. |

MORE ELVIS KEEP GOING UNTIL THERE IS NO MORE ELVIS LEFT
note: there is a lot of elvis but seriously i haven't done one of these all year
This was a soundtrack for a movie. Back when regular-ass artists had movies and made soundtrack albums for them. When was the last time this happened? Tenacious D and Spinal Tap don't count.
Rhyming "G.I. blues" with "G.I. shoes" was pretty great, I have to admit There's also a rerecording of Blue Suede Shoes, which isn't as good as the original, but still the best song on the album. The album ends on its worst song, which is one of my favourite things |

It's time for the first review of a 2016 album.
This is pretty much a Radiohead album. The problem is that Thom Yorke's voice works for this sort of thing. Bowie's doesn't.
As the album went on, however, I really got into it. easily my album of the year 2016 by default even
for real though a great album |
