24 Oct 2016: Grand Funk Railroad/"On Time" (1969)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2016/10/julio-and-case-of-missing-grandiosity.html

grand funk railroad are the first band to have a mediocre song called heartbreaker
usually when you write a song called heartbreaker, it's one of your best (led zeppelin, pat benatar, the rolling stones)
what's next a song called "long way from home" that ISN'T the band's best song????????????

can't be too long is so annoying

the album kind of dips at the end, which is a shame because it started off really well

24 Oct 2016: Dare/"Out of the Silence" (1988)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2008/12/silent-night-holy-night.html

rym aor
kind of sounds like a band created for a movie to sound like an '80s band in the most generic way possible
it's like EVERY SONG is this band's "most important" song

coincidentally, i reviewed two albums today with a song called "heartbreaker"
this time, all is as it should be and it's the best song here

basically
don't let go and heartbreaker are legit good songs, but the rest needs work

28 Oct 2016: Johnny Cash/"Ride This Train" (1960)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2016/10/julio-and-case-of-missing-following.html

johnny cash was the only man in the world who could have played loading coal straight and made it work
i mean, you could have made it super-over the top and made it work but cash doesn't need that shit
actually, that applies to every song here, due to the spoken story intros

i don't know why he decided to make an album where every song has a short story before it, but it works, against all odds
the last track doesn't even have a song

29 Oct 2016: Bon Jovi/"This Left Feels Right" (2003)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2008/12/kill-me.html

i've been putting this one off for ages
but it's time to finally finish the bon jovi discography (until next week when the new album comes out)

this is just unplugged versions of their hits

wanted dead or alive has absolutely no feeling or weight here
"i've seen a million faces and i've ROCKED 'em all" became "i've seen a lot of faces (i've seen an awful lot of faces)" and it's hilarious

the woman on livin' on a prayer is really, truly awful

unplugged bad medicine is a terrible idea on its own
why is jbj whispering everything? when you remove the FUN from bad medicine, you're left with NOTHING

it's my life goes from reasonably decent and fun on occasion to PRETENTIOUS BULLSHIT

lay your hands on me is the same situation as bad medicine, only worse

the second half of the album is songs that ACTUALLY WORK FOR THIS ALBUM

This album is the musical equivalent of raping your own children and selling them into slavery. There should be laws against this.

01 Nov 2016: Backstreet Boys/"Never Gone" (2005)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2008/12/god-bless-them.html

It's been a while. This is where I stop being familiar with anything on these albums. Nostalgia is out the window as an excuse.
After this album, Kevin left the group to be with his family and such. He returned a few albums later, but whatever.

The album begins with Incomplete, which is could have been performed by one of those modern "alternative metal" bands and not have seemed out of place.
Just Want You to Know has no charisma, and sounds generic as shit. It sounds like every generic pop song out there today, with zero personality.

The best two songs on this album aren't even on the album; they're bonus tracks for the "tour edition".
Movin' On is the only one that even remotely sounds like the group did in the '90s.

jesus christ
it was cool when dio did it
it's not cool when you do it

i understand why back to earth wasn't included on the actual album
