Pokkén Tournament

So, here's a thing for those of you who live in states people care about.

The new Pokémon fighting game is heading to Dave and Buster'ses across the country. We don't have those here, so I'm super-glad it's getting a Wii U port.

ANYWAY
Pokkén is a portmanteau of Pokémon and Tekken. It's just Pokémon fighting, so don't get your hopes up for Jin Kazama vs Pikachu

Suicune definitely is an interesting choice. Almost everyone else stands up on two legs (or however gardevoir stands upright).

Suicune is my favorite of the 3 dogs, but it has always baffled me why it got its own game based on it. Entei for sure has the most badass vibe of the 3, and he even got his own fucking movie.
Not to mention Lugia already learns water moves and Ho-oh learns fire moves, so they could have gone the Pokémon yellow route and chosen Raikou. Suicune is definitely an odd choice.

Surprised at no Mewtwo or Jigglypuff. you'd think they'd continue to ride the exposure train that started with Super Smash Bros

I'm surprised there aren't any Gen V or Gen VI Pokémon at all. Greninja seemed like a lock.

Shiftry should have been in there, as a sort of homage to DOA's Tengu!!!

Speaking of the lack of gen V/VI, there are so many great choices from the two games. Greninja as was mentioned, and wtf Pikachu Libre instead of Hawlucha like wtf. And out of all the quadrupeds, you'd think Samurott would be better than Suicine. Fine, he's not a mascot of any sorts, but it's a samurai, and every fighting game ever has a samurai (and/or a ninja).

I agree completely on all points.
I also think any of the Musketeer trio would have been better than Suicune. Especially Cobalion.

I'm hoping for post-release DLC. If anything, though, we'll get Mewtwo and that's it.


I made a roster for this game with thirty Pokémon (there are too many for me to really go lower).
I tried to balance the super-popular Pokémon, fan favourites, and some out there choices.

further reviewing your choices, Togekiss and Metagross might be kind of weird.

I like the meowth call.

Also, I feel like hariyama would be a good choice for this game. Very niche in his fighting type style

I wanted a fighter that didn't actually have, like, arms. If they could pull it off, Togekiss could be a great character.
Metagross is the only one I wasn't too sure on. It would pretty much just be slow and clomp around. It could have weaker long-range psychic attacks and powerful short-range steel attacks.

Hariyama could probably replace Metagross if you're not buying into it, however.
