27 Oct 2014: Supertramp/"Breakfast in America" (1979)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/11/in-night-by-night-men.html

The only Supertramp song I've ever heard is The Logical Song, and it's just okay, so, naturally, I'm going to do the entire album it's on.

From the outset, I don't get it. Like, what even is this?
I also know Goodbye Stranger. I didn't know that.

So, it's like, why? If you've heard The Logical Song, you've heard the best song on the damn thing. I feel like I spent forty-five minutes listening to this album for the sake of having listened to it.

27 Oct 2014: Fall Out Boy/"Save Rock and Roll" (2013)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.com/2013/11/ways-of-lives-by-live-wives.html

An interesting concept. Why does rock and roll need saving? Is the title supposed to be a sentence, "Fall Out Boy save rock and roll"? Or is it a command, "hey, you; save rock and roll"?

The Phoenix is the most heavy Fall Out Boy song I've heard, but it's hardly saving rock and roll. Maybe there's more to it.
Then there's the hit, Light 'em Up. I'm not sure I understand what the song is about, but it's memorable at the least. The "oh oh oh-oh-oh-oh-oh" shit is unnecessary, but sticks in your head, so I suppose they knew what they were doing.

Alone Together sounds like such a generic pop song that I can't possibly be lead to believe that it is saving rock and roll. Where'd the Party Go is even worse in that regard. And somehow, Just One Yesterday is even WORSE in that regard.
The Mighty Fall breaks the chain of pop songs, but it's still a bad song. And the rapper who is rapping is bad at that.

Thankfully, Miss Missing You is another generic pop song. Young Volcanoes follows suit. There was apparently a track between those two, but I didn't notice.
Rat-A-Tat is just bad, with or without Courtney Love.

Then there's the title track, which is the biggest bullshit in history. Fuck you. Fuck you.

Fuck you.

what!? Breakfast in America is pretty greeeeeat.
It's got some neato electric piano and sax sounds, it's got catchy pop tunes, and it's got filler out the yazoo near the end.
(though I do really like Child of Vision, but I could see it being horrendously boring to some)

Also, I do prefer Crime of the Century over Breakfast in America, and the endless electric pianos can be a little daunting if listened to in large doses.

ALSO, i forgot to mention last week, but I agree Your Song is THE Elton John song. However, recently my love for Take Me To The Pilot has been growing at an alarming rate

Breakfast in America got to the point where I couldn't remember where one song ended and another began. Everything was the same. I'll probably listen to Crime of the Century eventually.

Take Me to the Pilot is nice, but it's one of those songs that I will never be able to remember that it exists.

28 Oct 2014: The Flaming Lips/"With a Little Help from My Friends" (2014)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2014/10/julio-and-case-of-missing-pilots-by.html

Literally came out today. It has a very strange typo in the title, though. They ought to fire their proofreading guy.
This album is a head-to-toe cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, featuring about a million guest performers. The only four I've heard of are My Morning Jacket, Tegan and Sara, the guy from Tool, and Miley Cyrus. An all-star line-up if ever there was one.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is insulting. That voice they use for everything but the chorus is obnoxious and absolutely insulting. The guitar solo is then way too loud and very obnoxious because of it.
The drum solo that begins With a Little Help from My Friends sounds like they found a trash can, overturned it, and went to town. All of St. Anger's detractors need to hear this one. The parts sung by Ringo are sung way too quietly, and the parts sung by the others are just screamed like a retard and distorted to shit. Fuck you.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is actually decent. The stupid shit they've been doing to every other song actually works on this one. Miley Cyrus's vocals work well, even if she doesn't pronounce "fountain" correctly.
Getting Better has that stupid whisper vocal thing. It's so quiet and muffled that it's really fucking annoying. YOU'RE TOO FUCKING QUIET RETARD SPEAK THE FUCK UP And he didn't even emphasise the "I beat her" line properly. That's the most important one, for fuck's sake. And they pronounce "better" as "bedder". Fuck off with that shit.

Then we have the underappreciated classic, Fixing a Hole, which is raped and left in a gutter. You're not Radiohead, and this isn't Kid A. If you really want to be Thom Yorke, take his fucking advice. STOP WHISPERING YOU FUCKING FUCK FUCK FUCK
She's Leaving Home (Because She Can't Hear a Fucking Word You're Saying) The vocals are seriously the quietest thing in the mix. This isn't how you're supposed to.

Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite at least puts the vocals on the same level as everything else. The song is shit without the circus sound effects, though.
The woman singing Within You, Without You is horrible at it. She can't sing. Who gave her a microphone? Who replaced the vocal track by someone who can sing that was obviously meant for the album?

When I'm Sixty-Four makes no sense now. What the fuck even? The music does not fit the lyrics in the slightest.
Lovely Rita features another woman who can't sing, and also children. Or worse, grown-ass men whose voices are edited to sound like children. They can fuck right off.

There are so many effects on Good Morning, Good Morning that I am getting a headache from it. I can't take much more of this.
I'm tired. I can't even get to the reprise. It's got all the same problems as every other song, but with the addition of nails on a chalkboard. They really improve the experience, I think. For some reason, they saw fit to make this song last over five minutes. Kill me.

The weird minimalist shit doesn't work for Paul's part of A Day in the Life. It's supposed to sound cheery, unlike this entire album. It's so strange and wrong that I just can't help but hate it. I expected better from Miley.

Join us next week when we tackle the band's cover of The Dark Side of the Moon. I'm sure it will be a masterpiece.

28 Oct 2014: Paul McCartney/"Once Upon a Long Ago" (1987)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2014/01/wallet-fourteen-by-man-of-many-wallets.html

After that last thing, I need this. I need Paul to remind me that he isn't what just happened.

The title track is the best thing Paul did in the '80s that wasn't a Michael Jackson song.
Back on My Feet is probably second in that regard. I mean, shit. This EP is already better than any album Paul released in the '80s.

The remaining two songs are from Choba B CCCP, and are better than I remember that album being.
Overall, the best thing Paul did in the '80s by far.

29 Oct 2014: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones/"More Noise and Other Disturbances" (1992)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2013/11/feeling-blue-by-reds.html

The Rock Band 2 rerecording of Where Did You Go was better. This entire album has nothing I liked about that version of the song at all.
This album has no redeeming qualities. It is a complete and utter pile of garbage.

30 Oct 2014: Kool and the Gang/"Wild and Peaceful" (1973)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2013/11/children-of-children-by-children.html

Playing San Andreas HD has reminded me about this album. It's time to dive headfirst into the funky end of the pool.

And, boy, is it funky. The first track is called "Funky Stuff", and it pretty much hits the nail on the head. This stuff? Funky.
More Funky Stuff tries to expand upon its predecessor, and really just wastes time. Not as funky, not as good.

Then there's Jungle Boogie, which is really fucking annoying. That trumpet or whatever is just horrid. And the deep vocals are even worse.
Heaven at Once is a REALLY FUCKING CHEESY talking song. Maybe the cheesiest song in history.

Hollywood Swingin' is one of the best songs. It's funky as shit, dog.
Life is What You Make It goes on for forever and never gets interesting ever at any point holy shit

The title track is the standard "oh shit we need to fill up ten minutes" track.

Overall, disappointing. Only Funky Stuff and Hollywood Swingin' are really that good.

This is 100% the second-best Cheap Trick album up to this point. I mean, shit. Why can't they all be this good? Keeping my attention the whole way through isn't that hard. I mean, Who D'King is absolute garbage, but other than that, it's great.

http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2013/11/the-loneliest-by-one.html

The album opens with a Whitesnake song, Hot an' Nasty. I'm pretty sure Whitesnake did it better.

Generic rock music at its most generic.

31 Oct 2014: Bang Camaro/"Bang Camaro II" (2008)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2013/12/general-generic-by-genercdipujpisda.html

The latest Bang Camaro album. It has held that title for six years.

I hate to say this, but Blood Red Rock would be a much better song if it were by a different band. The Bang Camaro gang vocals don't work for it at all.
Night Lies should have opened the album. It's the band's best song, after all.

The band blew their entire load on Night Lies. The rest is either just okay or filler. Nice album.

01 Nov 2014: "Los Beatles" by The Beatles

In Argentina, they got this collection of, like, singles and shit. The last three tracks are the definite lowlights, but it's got some classics like From Me to You, She Loves You, and She's a Woman.
Not bad, overall.

http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2014/01/under-where-by-underwho.html

Maybe if I keep doing them they'll eventually be good

The album starts with some weird filler instrumental. Classic Bowie.
I know I joke a lot about "songs with the same name must be the same song", but there is seriously a cover of I Feel Free here that sounds nothing like the original and it is absolutely horrid.

The rest is either okay or filler. Hooray. All the instrumentals on this album sound exactly the same, by the way.

01 Nov 2014: Metallica and Lou Reed/"Lulu" (2011)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2013/12/racing-for-city-by-men-of-city.html

There comes a day when every boy must become a man. For me, today is that day.

SMALL-TOWN GIRL
So, like, this is bad. I can't deny this. However, it's absolutely brilliant in how bad it is. It's the Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff of music.
SMALL-TOWN GIRL

The View is the best song ever. There is nothing else to say.
I AM THE TABLE
I AM THE TABLE
I AM THE TABLE
I AM
I AM
I AM

After the first two tracks, the album goes absolutely nowhere and does nothing interesting. Oh well. It's really suffering from a lack of James Hetfield shouting nonsensical bullshit. If every song was just "I AM THE TABLE" over and over, it would be the best album.
Like, if it was Hetfield shouting "SPERMLESS LIKE A GIRL" on Frustration, it would be a classic. Reed's delivery is really what kills this album.

One thing I like about this album is that James Hetfield identifies himself as the table, and Lou Reed identifies himself as not-the table. I am thankful for the clarification.

http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2014/10/julio-and-case-of-missing-drummer-by.html

Notable for being one of the two reviews I did during the hiatus, Mystery Skulls' debut EP was very good. Now there's a full album. Joy.

From the word "go", this album is nothing like what I liked about the EP. None of the creativity, none of the uniqueness. The vocals are even completely different for whatever reason. Fucking hell.

Like, holy shit, it's a generic pop album now. Except he said "fuck it", which makes it soooooooooooooooooooo unique
When I'm with You is finally finally FINALLY WHAT I CAME FOR

02 Nov 2014: Helloween/"Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I" (1987)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2013/12/drinking-from-cup-of-cupiosity-by.html

Since Halloween is safely behind us, it is safe to review this.

Starting with a filler instrumental intro track is always a good idea.
The main draw here is the thirteen-minute track, Halloween. A track like this is what makes or breaks an album. For every Freebird or Rime of the Ancient Mariner, there are twenty boring failures. Luckily, Halloween succeeds and is actually the best song here.

The stupid outro track is pretty great for how cheesy it is.

Every other song is very good, really. Nothing to complain about here. If I had to sum this album up in three words, they'd be "Black was right".

I'm going to review this next album twice. First, I will write a review of this album without actually listening to it. Then I will write a review as I listen to it, like usual.

03 Nov 2014: Tesla/"Simplicity" (2014)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2014/06/julio-and-case-of-missing-u-by-sers.html

The problem with bands carrying on almost thirty years after their debut is that it's entirely likely that they'll have run out of ideas and just be putting whatever out they can to try and stay relevant. They can't all be Whitesnake.

The main problem with this album in particular is that it's fucking fourteen tracks long. It really starts to wear out, considering nothing was very good to begin with. If the album had been half as long, it would have been a much better experience.

03 Nov 2014: Tesla/"Simplicity" (2014)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2014/06/julio-and-case-of-missing-u-by-sers.html

Jeff Keith's voice has come to the point where it's kind of annoying. Like, the songs are good, but there's way too much rasp for them to work. Break of Dawn is the worst example.

Honestly, my other review wasn't too far off. It was a bit harsh, but I pretty much nailed it.

Thankfully, the last track is both the worst one AND the longest one.

04 Nov 2014: The Flaming Lips/"blah blah blah The Dark Side of the Moon" (2009)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2013/12/standing-ovum-by-oviaries.html

YOU THOUGHT IT WAS A JOKE BUT IT WASN'T
I REALLY WISH IT WAS THOUGH

The first thing I've realised is that I am not nearly as attached to The Dark Side of the Moon as I am to Sgt. Pepper.
The end of the first track and the second track are exactly the same and I do not need that same exact thing repeated for eight minutes.

Then there's the coughing. I fucking love listening to a guy cough, let me tell you.
Great Gig remains faithful to the original, and that's all I could hope for.

The stupid vocal effects on Money just ruin the whole thing. The whole thing.
Us and Them sounds like someone forgot how to volume and why is one note nice and the next REALLY FUCKING LOUD

Nowhere near as bad as their Sgt. Pepper, but no replacement for the original.

The album begins with Drivin' Wheel, which was in GTA IV: The Lost and the Damned. Great choice for the game, great song in general.
If I didn't know any better, I would have questioned why Owner of a Lonely Heart was the third track.

The album starts off strong, but peters out toward the end. Oh well.

05 Nov 2014: ZZ Top/"Deguello" (1979)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2013/12/your-own-time-to-have-time-by-time.html

This is the (apparently second-)highest-rated ZZ Top album on RYM, and I'm curious why.

You didn't have to make I Thank You so gratingly repetitive but you did but you did but you did
"I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide" makes no sense. Like, what do they have to do with eachother? The guitar part is annoying, as well.

"A Fool for Your Stockings"? Fucking really? Like, what even? What's next, A Fool for Your Stamp Collection?
Don't come runnin' to me, you know I've done all I can; a stamp-collectin' woman like you just makes a stamp-collectin' man

What the fuck even is Manic Mechanic? This isn't music. Am I being abducted by aliens for a Satanic ritual?
The best song here is Cheap Sunglasses, which I never thought was that great.

GREAT ALBUM GUYS

06 Nov 2014: The Pretenders/"Learning to Crawl" (1984)
http://musiccouldbebetter.blogspot.in/2013/12/hydrophonics-by-words-that-doesnt-exits.html

After the blunder that was their second album, opening with Middle of the Road was exactly what the band needed. It's absolutely very good.
Back on the Chain Gang is filler, though. Watching the Clothes makes no sense and is also filler.

The album begins and ends on its best tracks. Everything between them is almost pointless.
