In the spirit of this thread: http://tehforum.forumotion.com/t922-gh-rb-discovery-thread

You hadn't heard of every song on GH before it came out and you actually played each and every delicious song on the setlist. Surely, some of these new songs you had never heard of before struck you, and you just wanted to listen to it hundreds of times in a row. This thread is to share with us those songs that you hadn't heard before you played GH/RB, but REALLY, REALLY liked it.

Guitar Hero
Quite a lot for me in this one. Not ashamed to say the GH games were my first entry into a lot of bands.

Infected
More Than a Feeling
Hey You
Stellar
Cochise
Cowboys From Hell
Get Ready 2 Rokk
Cheat on the Church
Guitar Hero

Guitar Hero 2
Again, probably gonna be even more in this one. It wasn't until GH2 and getting onto the GHG forums that I really started getting into more music. There's a reason why my first custom setlist at GHG made Eifion viscerally hate me.

Shout at the Devil
Mother
Surrender
Woman
Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight
Heart Shaped Box
Them Bones
Search and Destroy
John the Fisherman
Freya
Stop
Tripping on a Hole in a Paper Heart
YYZ
Institutionalized
Arterial Black
Elephant Bones
Fall of Pangaea
Less Talk More Rokk
Push Push (Lady Lightning)
Six
Thunderhorse
Trogdor
The Light that Blinds
Madhouse

GH80s

18 and Life
Radar Love
Turning Japanese
Round and Round

Guitar Hero 3

Monsters
Helicopter
Lay Down
Same Old Song and Dance
Hier Kommt Alex
F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X.
Can't Be Saved
I'm In the Band

Skipped Numbers are Edgy

One Armed Scissor
Obstacle 1
Sacrifice
Mountain Song

Rock Band

Foreplay/Long Time
Welcome Home
Main Offender
The Hand that Feeds
Wave of Mutilation

oh jeez, what a fun blast from the past.

Of the games I've played, RB2 and World Tour are the only ones I'm missing from that original list. It's honestly been so long now since I first played these games that I can't remember anymore if GH/RB was my first exposure to the song.

However, These I know for certain

World Tour:

Weapon of Choice
Love Spreads
L'Via L'Viaquez

RB2:

Bodhisattva
Spoonman
Testify

Also, wow was I musically sheltered as a child

Less musically sheltered than me, it seems. Aside from Motorhead, Placebo, Nevermind and the Black Album I got very little rock/metal from my parents. My first tastes of a lot of 80s bands came from Guitar Hero and even more came from the forums once I'd found my way there.

Editted my other post woo

My taste today mostly comes from /mu/, but this place and GH/RB definitely had a heavy hand in molding it

I'm in the same boat. Though I could play music, modern and influential music was not anywhere on my radar.

and I can assure you that I would not be as into music as I am now if not for GH and the forums

If I hadn't played Guitar Hero, I would be entirely different person.

It was my interest in Guitar Hero which got me onto the Sarcastic Gamer forums, which led me to Eurogamer Expo, where I met the guy who ran 7bitarcade, who I then wrote for for two years and ended up co-owning. Met my girlfriend through it as well. So everything to do with my life for the last 5-7 years: my entire music taste, the music journalism, the festivals, the friends I have now; largely all because one of my old friends from school bought a dumbass plastic guitar game.

i think the same can be said for all of us

i have no idea what i'd be doing if not for guitar hero, ghg, etc.
i certainly wouldn't be attempting to review two albums a day and not doing a very good job of it

GH got me interested in other instruments in general, so without it I definitely wouldn't have learned bass, guitar, drums, and all the other odd ball instruments I have laying around.

PLUS bran & friends wouldn't have happened, biggest loss of our generation
