At the end of Infamous 2, you are tasked with a decision.
1: Use MAGIC DEVICE to kill THE BEAST and all MAGIC PEOPLE, maybe curing the plague? Possibly? We have no way of knowing before doing it!
2: Side with THE BEAST, and use his powers to activate all MAGIC PEOPLE, but killing everyone else. This may be the only way that anyone lives.
Moral ambiguity?! In a videogame?! NOPE BETTER LABEL THEM BLUE AND RED; GOOD AND EVIL
EVERY CHOICE IS BLACK AND WHITE AND THERE ARE NO GREYS
This isn't the worst bit. I decided that the only thing to do, for both me and Cole as a character, was to do the "evil" ending. It's the only one where anyone is guaranteed to live, after all.
However, the game wouldn't let me do this, as I'd played through the game doing only good choices. My choices weren't "BLUE OR RED", my choices were "BLUE OR GRIND FOR HOURS TO BECOME EVIL AND LOSE ALL OF YOUR POWERS YOU'VE GAINED BECAUSE THEY'RE TIED TO YOUR ALIGNMENT".
This is horrible game design. They made a morally ambiguous choice, and won't even let the player choose. The player is tied to the developer's sense of right and wrong. Nevermind that the "evil" choice is really the only one that makes sense for a good or an evil Cole. Nevermind that the entire game leads up to this choice THAT YOU CAN'T EVEN MAKE.
KUO CAN MAKE A FUCKING 180 AND DO THE "EVIL" THING AFTER BEING GOOD THE WHOLE GAME
WHY
CAN'T
I
IT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE
I DON'T EVEN WANT TO FINISH THE GAME NOW
THEY'VE TAKEN AWAY MY AGENCY AND REPLACED IT WITH "OH YOU DIDN'T KNOW WE'D FUCK YOU OVER?! TOO BAD REPLAY THE GAME"
FUCK
YOU
